How 88 minutes of manual pricing became 28
Jewelry Business, Custom Pricing
Bijouli, a jewelry business with custom pricing, priced every piece by hand from scattered notes. Every quote took about 88 minutes: looking up current gold and silver prices, calculating costs, double-checking the math. To cover for possible mistakes, quotes were padded with wide safety margins, which left money on the table on every deal.
I built a custom Google Sheets pricing engine, with gold and silver prices updating automatically every day, and full cost logic that calculates each piece by weight, type, and labor required. The tool didn’t require switching to a new system, just getting more out of the tool the business already knew.
Pricing time dropped from about 88 minutes to about 28 minutes per order, a 68% reduction. Pricing itself became tighter and closer to real cost, instead of padded wide for uncertainty.
